COMMENT: London 2012

Bringing the Great back to Britain

The London Games of the 30th Olympiad have come to an end (Part 1 - The Paralympics follow).  What was achieved in just seven years is just fantastic and shows up Mr Blatter and FIFA who strangely moved the soccer goalposts.  Future World Cup organisers have 10 years to sort out a much simpler and far less complicated event.  No prizes and no comment.

We will not praise individuals but our first gold medal goes to the team who made the successful Singapore bid, and saw it through.  London 1908 was a breakthrough, London 1948 a triumph over adversity, and London 2012 the setting of new standards for the future.

Congratulation to ODA (Olympic Delivery Authority), who built the infrastructure; LOCOG (The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games), who ran the operation; BOA (British Olympic Authority) for the sports technical side; TfL (Transport for London), GLA (Greater London Authority); HM Armed Forces and the police; the Olympic Games Makers and the people of the United Kingdom.

Finally the competitors many who sacrificed much.  All helped to bring the Great back to Britain.

The London Legacy awaits.
