The independent Greek airline Aegean, a Star Alliance member and now the country’s largest, has announced a revised London programme with the start of the winter operational season at the end of October.
New for the airline is a daily service between Gatwick and Athens. The Heathrow operation is to be reduced from 24 outbounds to just 11. However it intends to retain the Larnaca – Heathrow service which at one time it planned to move to Gatwick.
Founded in 1987, today Aegean is an all Airbus single class A320 series operator. In 2011 a merger with Olympic Air (which also operates into Heathrow) was blocked by the EU on anti-competition grounds. www.aegeanair.com
