Routes dropped

Airlines continue to close routes and sometimes just reduce capacity without the usual fanfare associated with the opening of a new city pair.  For the business traveller this can be most frustrating.

German national carrier Lufthansa is the latest to drop a sector somewhat quietly.  Munich to Jakarta via Singapore, five times weekly Airbus A340 service, will go from 14 October.  The route is not duplicated by any other airline, nor the Singapore – Munich sector.

Lufthansa continues to serve Singapore from Frankfurt in partnership with fellow Star Alliance member Singapore Airlines, and in competition with Qantas.  From Zurich, Singapore Airlines also flies daily.

For the winter season the airline is also cutting services from Frankfurt to Casablanca, Gatwick, Larnaca, Naples and Palma (Majorca).

Another Star Alliance member dropping routes is Air China.  From 27 August Xiamen – Singapore goes and 9 October is the final flight on Beijing – Kuala Lumpur. www.lufthansa.com www.airchina.com
