Visitors to Business Travel Market at Excel last week would have seen the Emirates Air Line cable car under test between the Greenwich Peninsula (O2) and a dockside site close by Royal Victoria DLR.
The service has already been added to the Transport for London (TfL) diagrammatic map.
Emirates have sponsored the crossing in a deal worth £36m over 10 years. The airline also sponsors the Arsenal Stadium in North London and took over the Heathrow tunnel roundabout site from British Airways.
As things stand TfL are unable to confirm when the system will open but officials are confident that it will be up and running in time for the Olympic Games, each terminal close by London 2012 competition sites.
Journey time in each of the 34 eight-seat gondolas will take about five minutes. Disabled facilities are provided. The system isexpected to become a major tourist attraction. Travel charges are not yet known.
THURSDAY 28 JUNE WAS CONFIRMED AS THE START DATE ON 18 JUNE. More details next week.
