Doncaster Airport road link

Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, to give it the official title, is to have a new link road direct to Junction 3 of the M18.  Junction 3 is close by the M1 motorway. Last week Doncaster Council’s planning department gave approved for the scheme.  Construction of the road is expected to start later this year and be operational in early 2014.

Steve Gill, Airport Director for Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “The road is a critical component in the drive to further develop airport connectivity which will act as a catalyst in the continued development of Doncaster and the wider Sheffield City Region.  The delivery of this much needed infrastructure will truly place the airport at the heart of the Sheffield City Region, positioning the facility as the natural airport of choice”. 

A former RAF base the airport opened for civil traffic in April 2005 and is popular for holiday charter flights, and offers scheduled operations by Flybe and Ryanair.  The new road will present further airline development possibilities.  Doncaster Airport is owned by the Peel Group who also run Liverpool and Tees Durham airports. www.robinhoodairport.com
