Gatwick Express booms

With the opening last week of the new Blackfriars (City) Station on the competing Thameslink line, the Gatwick Express to Victoria has announced a 17% increase in passengers in the past year.  Victoria takes 30 minutes, Blackfriars 35.

Alex Foulds, Development Director for Southern Railway which runs the Gatwick Express, explains: "Considering the context of a 6.9% rise in airport passengers at Gatwick, these figures reveal the robust health of the Gatwick Express brand".

In addition, Gatwick Express has reported a huge 100% increase in people booking their tickets online in the same period, helped by significant investment in mobile ticketing technologies as well as an aggressive online pricing policy.  Offers such as free lounge access with First Class returns have helped change customer behaviour.

Alex Foulds added: “This latest growth in passenger numbers shows that more people are choosing Gatwick Express due to it being fast and non-stop, as well as being the most convenient and reliable way of getting to and from the airport.  With our excellent online promotions it means that it is now both cheaper and easier to book online.  This is why we have seen our online sales double in the last year”. www.gatwickexpress.com
