787 for South East Asia

Royal Brunei Airlines has confirmed that it is to put the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the London route from August 2013, becoming the first airline in South East Asia to operate the aircraft.  Presently the state-owned carrier operates six Boeing 777-200ERs on lease from Singapore Airlines.  These will be returned.  The new Boeing will have 18 lie-flat state-of-the-art Business Class seats and 236 in Economy.

Speaking at London’s Shepherds Bush Westfield Centre last Friday (25 May), where Brunei launched a UK tourism campaign, Deputy Chairman Dermot Mannion stated: “The launch of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner by Royal Brunei Airlines next year will put Brunei firmly on the map.  We want to show the public just how much Brunei has to offer, from its rainforests and diverse eco-system to its cultural heritage and unique lifestyle”.

Presently Royal Brunei operates via Dubai, and also flies daily to Melbourne, but does not compete significantly on the ‘kangaroo’ route.  “Too many others”, says Mr Mannion, who spent many years with Emirates, before a spell with Aer Lingus.  “We offer Halal meals and are also a dry carrier”.  The airline is at Heathrow T4 with premium passengers gaining the use of the excellent Etihad lounge. www.bruneiair.com
