Whilst personal hand held units have been around a long time as regards airlines (Virgin Atlantic offered them in the 1980s) today’s portable offerings are very sophisticated. Icelandair has a problem in that it needs to charter in extra, sometimes non-in-flight entertainment (IFE), aircraft at peak periods. Business Class and Premium Economy passengers will now be able to play games and enjoy movies and TV shows.
IFE Services, a leading UK-based IFE provider, has signed an agreement with the airline to supply Sony PlayStation Portables (PSPs). Each PSP will come loaded with a choice of movies, TV programmes and digital comics as well as a broad selection of the latest PSP games.
The units come with a battery life of up to 11 hours with an option to increase it by a further 10 hours if necessary. They can be tailored to suit any airline requirements. www.ifeservices.com www.icelandair.com
