Star Alliance is to add China’s Shenzhen Airlines to its expanding portfolio of international airlines. Its integration into the grouping should be completed by the end of next year by which time the total membership is expected to reach 32 carriers.
Shenzhen Airlines started operations in 1993 backed as a major shareholder by Star Alliance member Air China. Today is has a fleet of more than 100 passenger and cargo aircraft consisting of Boeing 747s and 737s, and Airbus A320s and A319s, flying on over 200 domestic and international routes. Its headquarters are at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, China's second busiest and the world's 19th busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic.
