Trenitalia orders 50 High Speed Trains

Trenitalia, Italian Railways has ordered 50 new V300 ZEFIRO high speed trains, the V300 is a model of the Bombardier Zefiro high speed train family.  The new trains will be developed in partnership with AnsaldoBreda, a subsidiary of the Finmeccanica group of Italy and will be known as the ETR 1000. 

The total cost of the contract will be €1.54bn (US$2.1bn).  The high speed train will be able to carry up to 600 passengers at speeds of 360 km/h.  Bombardier Transportation has now orders for a total of 210 ZEFIRO high speed trains.
