The Israeli-designed Alice electric aircraft has made its maiden nose-up hop. First unveiled at the Paris Air Show in 2019, Alice, the electric commuter aircraft, is designed to carry up to 2,500 lbs (1,134kg) of payload for a range of up to 440nm (815km). (See BTN 1 July 2019 Paris Air Show.)
Alice’s launch customer, DHL, ordered 12 aircraft in cargo configuration in August 2021. Most recently, on 15 September, Eviation announced that it had received a letter of intent (LoI) from US-based charter airline GlobalX regarding the potential order of 50 Alice planes. Delivery is expected to begin in 2027.
The tests took place at Grant County Municipal Airport (MWH), Washington (USA), on 18 September, with the goal of examining the performance of aircraft engines and other systems during taxiing. Testing went smoothly, giving the green light for Arlington-based Eviation to proceed with plans to launch Alice’s first flight later this year.
One thing very noticeable is that the aircraft now powered by two Magni 650 units each of 650kw, the original three-engine configuration having been dropped.
