Airports at ExCeL London

What will be the first gathering of its type since the outbreak of the pandemic the British-Irish Airports EXPO opens Wednesday week (22 June) at its new home ExCeL London on the Elizabeth Line.  Nearly 90 exhibitors have taken space.

Robert Courts MP, Aviation Minister, will tour the exhibition on 23 June and address the Regional and Business Airports Group (RABA), the trade body of 40 regional UK and Dependency airports which will hold its annual meeting within the EXPO.

The event is supported by Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester Airports Group.

The DfT and Connected Places Catapult (CPC) have booked a major pavilion within the EXPO which includes exhibits and live demonstrations by many of the 146 companies which have benefitted from the DfT’s Future Aviation Security Solutions (FASS) programme.

DfT and CPC have also sponsored and curated the ‘Innovate to Accelerate Recovery Conference’ which will take place on the EXPO’s main Concorde Stage featuring Sarah Sharples, Chief Scientific Adviser DfT; Rachel Gardner-Poole, Chief Operating Officer, CPC; and Jason Fowler, Chief Executive Officer, British Aviation Group.

In a focus on “The global aviation race to net zero” featuring Steve Armitage, Head of Technology Design and Innovation, Heathrow Airport, the DfT CPC initiative will bring a host of UK small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) to the EXPO to meet other airports and stakeholders.

Similarly, there will also be a “Deep Dive Session Delivering Innovation for Aviation Security” highlighting some of the best innovations to emerge from the FASS programme.

This will be framed by a star presentation by Matt Gilkeson, Director of the TSA’s Innovation Task Force 101 – a group appropriately tasked with “collaborating with industry, airlines, airports and equipment manufacturers to find and deploy the very best technology.

In a separate look at decarbonisation, Jonathon Counsell, Group Head of Sustainability, International Airlines Group (IAG) and Matt Prescott, Head of Carbon Strategy (Net Zero), Heathrow will appear together immediately following the appearance.

The Rt Hon Lord Blunkett, Chair of both the Heathrow Recovery Forum and the easyJet Special Assistance Advisory Group (ESAAG), will address the Accessible Airport Conference, supported by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, as well as also talking on another platform discussing the role of Heathrow’s recovery in job creation.

Entry is free.
