Travellers into and around the UK should be aware of a massive train strike called by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) which will also affect exhibitions, conferences and functions. The dates set are Tuesday 21 June, Thursday 23 June and Saturday 25 June.
To gain maximum disruption the dates have been spread out, meaning for many the whole week is unsettled. The good news is that since the outbreak of the pandemic many will continue to work at home. “All this does is hurt the RMT members with loss of wages, but not the officials, and further reduce income for the railways”, said an observer. “Nobody wins”.
Amongst events that could be affected by the strike is the ABTA ‘Travel Matters’ gathering, Expo at ExCeL, and The Points Guy’s massive party at the Renaissance Hotel St Pancras. On the 22 June the Air League is holding a reception on the Palace of Westminster terrace with a flypast by the Army Air Corps, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy.
