Tuesday (14 June) will see the reopening of Heathrow Terminal 4 (T4), the smallest terminal at the airport, but popular with users.Qatar Airways will have the honour of being the first airline to use the facility, the QR11 due to land at 06:25. It is likely to be a very quiet building initially, the opposite of Hammed International at Doha.
With the re-opening of Heathrow T4 all four Elizabeth line trains will stop at the central station with two continuing to T5 and the other two to T4. These trains currently run from platforms 11,12 and 14 at Paddington National Rail station which is on the bridge linking to the Metropolitan line and the main platforms.
Piccadilly line trains will also return to serving Heathrow T4 also from Tuesday 14 June.
When it is fully up and running over 30 airlines will use T4 including Air Malta and Oman Air who have been quick to announce their return on 22 June.
The move will allow T4 airlines more check-in space and stand capacity as well as access to their premium facilities, and will also free up space in T2, T3 and T5 ahead of the summer peak. Over the last two years Heathrow Airport Ltd has taken the opportunity to refurbish many parts of T4, including upgrading toilets, air conditioning and hold baggage screening machines.
BTN Editor-in-Chief Malcolm Ginsberg will be using the building outbound 11 June to IATA and back 15 June. His first report will be in next Monday’s BTN.
