Newcastle is Ryanair’s latest UK base, where it has stationed a pair of 189-seat Boeing 737-800s. Ryanair is now Newcastle’s second-largest airline with almost 1.1m seats for sale, up by 50% over 2019, the first time it has exceeded the one million seat milestone.
Newcastle International Airport is sited on the A1, just eight miles north of the Tyne and with its own Metro station. It has 19 routes with a catchment area including the Scottish borders, to the west Carlisle and south as far as Durham. Its only long-haul carrier is Emirates, who sponsor the control tower. The big emphasis of the airport, which in a normal year transits over 5m passengers, is the summer sun and visiting friends and destinations markets.
With Ryanair Newcastle ranks now 11th in terms of busy British airports.
