UK rail problems

As if the United Kingdom has not got enough problems with keeping its current rail network running with most operators effectively nationalised, last week it announced a £96bn scheme to redefine HS2 and its offsprings.

Hugh Merryman, the increasingly convincing Chair of the Transport Select Committee was quickly at the Government’s throat explaining the train plans thus “the danger of selling perpetual sunlight and leaving it for others to explain perpetual moonlight.”  In other words it is for a future government to sort out!

Seen by some as an about-turn Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has come up with a scheme that he says saves money and will be implemented more quickly that the full HS2 project.

See COMMENT: The Integrated rail plan in this week’s BTN.
