Readers might like to know that the eagerly awaited first flight of the all new Boeing 747-8 (freighter version), is planned to take place some time after 20:00 hrs GMT today (Monday 8 February) from Everett, Seattle. It is the world's longest aircraft.

It is a pity that Boeing could not wait a day longer since it was on 9 February 1969 that the first 747 flew. The developed -400 series remained in production from 1989 until the end of last year.
