A doubling of passenger numbers from September 2020 to September 2021 has put Ryanair, and presumably Michael O’Leary, in a good mood. The load factor has jumped too.The Dublin-based airline carried 9.3m passengers in July (Load factor 80%), 11.1m (LF 82%) for August and 10.6m (81%) in September. This compares with 5.2m and 71% for September 2020.
Also announced is the winter schedule from Edinburgh, operating four new routes to Cork, Madrid, Palermo and Paris Beauvais (about 50 miles to the north of the city on the A16). Knock, Shannon, Tallinn and Turin were confirmed earlier in the year.
The airline says that the recent Scottish travel announcement, which removes the pre-departure testing requirement for fully vaccinated people arriving in Scotland has stimulated demand for travel and brings the total number of destinations offered from Edinburgh to 50.
