Stuart Innes

The man who provided the main interface between Reg Ward of the LDDC (London Docklands Development Corporation) and the London City Airport developers Brymon Airways and John Mowlem and Company, has passed on.

In 1982, as a senior civil servant, he was delegated to the newly created cooperation as a ‘safe pair of hands’ to keep an eye on the sometimes forthright Ward (see obituary in BTN 17 January 2011). Innes was to help oversee the regeneration of 8.5sq miles of mainly derelict land, centred on what is now Canary Wharf.  In retirement he sat on the London City Airport Consultative Board, Newham Health Authority, a parish councillor and much involved with local community efforts.  Just like Ward he never received any honours but did write the tribute to the LDDC’s Chief Executive in Malcolm Ginsberg’s London City Airport – 30 Years Serving the Capital.
