Turkey out of the red? *

There are persistent rumours that Turkey, one of the most popular destinations for UK holidaymakers could come out of the 'red' zone later this week.

With well over 2m British tourists visiting every year before the pandemic and a flight time of around four hours to the airports serving the resorts it has proven to be a commercially attractive destination for airlines.  However with the school holidays shortly coming to an end the lifting on the ban may just come too late for the carriers and hotels to attract any large numbers of visitors.

NHS Test and Trace figures show that 1.7% of people who arrived into the UK from Turkey tested positive for Covid-19 in the last three-week period.  It is the same rate as for travellers from Spain and down from a high of 3% in March and April.

Turkey sounds a good idea for the half term holiday. We missed out on our usual trip abroad in early August. But is the risk of a change of rules worth it?
