CAA boss speaks

Sir Steven Hillier, chairman of the UK Civil Aviation Authority, is the guest of the Aviation Club of the United Kingdom for a webinar Thursday 11 March 12:00 noon (GMT) hosted by Club chairman Karl Brünjes.

The former head of the Royal Air Force was appointed last May.  At the time transport secretary Grant Shapps neatly summed up the position and responsibility

“Sir Stephen’s incredible knowledge and experience in aviation will be invaluable during this period and I’m confident he will excel addressing the challenges presented by Covid-19. I am also excited to work with him and support the Civil Aviation Authority’s new vision once the industry is back on its feet.”

Born in Kilmarnock Sir Steven (age 59) gained a Private Pilots Licence (PPL) when he was 17 and was commissioned as an RAF pilot officer in 1980.  During a distinguished career he flew Tornado in the Gulf War and commanded 617 Squadron during the Iraq conflict.  He was chief of the air staff from 2016.

You do not have to be a member of the Club to join the video linkup which is free and available worldwide.
