Isle of Man to Heathrow

Loganair, in partnership with the Isle of Man (IOM) Government, will commence daily services between the island and Heathrow, from 1 December using T2.   The London City Airport flights will be withdrawn.

This will be the first time that the Glasgow-based airline – now the UK’s largest regional operator – has operated a permanent scheduled service to Heathrow. It follows moves by Loganair to secure runway slots at Heathrow for the IOM service.

Loganair already operates routes from the IOM to Liverpool and Manchester, and has maintained the island’s passenger air services following the demise of Flybe and the introduction of Covid-19 lockdowns in March.

At the present time business people and holiday makers who find Heathrow the most convenient connecting point to the island will for the most part not be able to use the service with the borders still closed except for IOM residents or ‘key’ workers. Those qualifying still have to self-isolate for 14 days.  Inspectors phone or call at the house or hotel several times during this period. People breaking this, even if just popping down to the nearest shop, are always prosecuted and the average penalty seems to be about four weeks in prison, without the option of a fine.

As a resident put it “Rather draconian, but still no Covid here, and no social distancing, with pubs, restaurants, theatres, etc, all operating quite normally.  Most locals think it’s well worth it!”
