OAG started to prepare this information much earlier in the year only to be overtaken by events.
BTN agrees with the rider that came with the statistics: “The old saying that ‘a change is as good as a rest’ came to mind so with that thought we decided to press on, offering you the chance to escape from the current situation for an hour or two and take a look back into some of the most interesting global routes in 2019”.
When planning for the future the numbers are well worth looking at. Sad to say it is likely to be many years before these record statistics are reached again.
We dispute "The world's shortest air route". Surely it is flown by Loganair between Westray and Papa Westray in Orkney which can be as little as 53 seconds, depending on the direction of the wind.

Hi Malcolm, what criteria did OAG use in compiling the top 10 global routes? I was surprised to see ATL-JNB at no10 with just 713 flights. Before the Covid-19 travel restrictions JNB-LHR has 1,460 (2,920 if one includes the reciprocal sectors) as did DXB-JNB. Best wishes, Linden
