Connected by the Humber Bridge from Hull, Eastern Airways, based at Bristow Group’s Humberside Airport, continues to keep active. Some 85% of the 420 staff are on furlough.
In a statement the airline says that the daily Humberside – Aberdeen schedule will continue given the difficulty for key workers to reach North-East Scotland without taking a day by train or road. This will continue throughout May.
“We are also flying an increasing number of ad hoc charters for key-worker shuttles, farming, energy sector and shipping crews so in the last week and next week we will have operated throughout the UK but also Norway (five differing airports), Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Romania with a number of other bookings to confirm into May.”
The airline says it is provisionally planning an interim “soft-start” schedule to take effect from Tuesday 26 May. The majority of flying will be from around 08:30-10:00 with the intention of being completed by 17:30-19:00 to help airports and handling providers needing to manage all costs and not being open an extra 2-3 hours for one arriving smaller regional aircraft.
