A first look at the new fleet for Heathrow Express announced in BTN last week was unveiled at the Business Travel Show with features including at-seat USB power, new Business First seating and work tables, plus an external livery.
Due for launch from this summer, the fully-electric trains will be made up of 12 units of 48 carriages to form six trains each 160m long with a total of 374 seats including 44 Business First.
The Class 387 trains are being specially converted to offer a bespoke experience for air travellers with plenty of room for luggage, onboard HD TVs and faster single sign-on wi-fi, meaning customers can stay connected “from Paddington to plane”.
Heathrow Express director Les Freer said: “Our new fleet will offer the same fast, frequent and reliable Heathrow Express service for years to come, delivering a dedicated airport experience for both business and leisure travellers.”
The specially-converted ex-GWR Class 387 trains, built by Bombardier in Derby, will replace the Class 332 fleet, which has been in service for 22 years carrying more than 115m passengers over 44mi.
