Cape Town rejoins Virgin network

A new, daily seasonal service between Heathrow and Cape Town is being launched by Virgin Atlantic next winter, followed closely by British Airways (see this issue).

Taking off on 25 October, the Virgin flights will be operated by Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner, complementing the existing daily service to Johannesburg.

The service will be a follow-up to Virgin’s new flying programme from Heathrow for this summer. This includes a new second daily service to Delhi, a new weekly flight to San Francisco and the next routes to debut the new Airbus A350, of which Johannesburg is one.

The new morning flight to Delhi will begin on 29 March, complementing the current evening departure. Together with Delta Air Lines, Virgin Atlantic will then offer seamless connections between Delhi and New York JFK, Boston, Detroit and Atlanta via Heathrow.

The airline is also re-timing its Mumbai flight from Heathrow to an evening departure, which it says offers a more convenient choice for business customers and with the additional daily flight to Delhi will mean more choice to India than ever before.

Also in the pipeline is a new weekly service to San Francisco, departing on a Friday. Virgin will fly the new A350 on the route from May and, coupled with the new weekly flight, will boost capacity by 40,000 seats for the summer season.
