El Al returns to Stansted

A five-times-a-week service between Stansted and Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport is being launched this summer by El Al Israel Airlines. The carrier last operated scheduled services from Stansted in 2009.

Flights to the economic and technological centre of Israel, one of the world’s top 25 most important financial centres, begin on 28 June and will operate initially until 3 September using a 166-seat Boeing B737-800 with Business and Economy classes.

Flights will operate on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Stansted head of aviation Nick Sime said: “More than 700,000 people travel from our catchment area to Tel Aviv each year so it’s fantastic El Al has recognised this great opportunity and is offering a quicker and more convenient travel option.

El Al vice-president commercial and industry affairs Michael Strassburger added: “We are excited to return to Stansted as El Al continues to expand its operations across the UK.”

The expansion to Stansted comes at a busy time for El Al, which is planning on entering the world of super-long-haul this summer with non-stop service between Tel Aviv and Melbourne using the B787-9 Dreamliner with a projected flight time of 16hr 45min (BTN 2 December 2019).
