Aviation Club and the MAX

Working for an airline is not easy. Oscar Munoz, a Mexican/American who will be the guest of the Aviation Club at the Institute of Directors in London on 7 November, suffered a heart attack on 15 October 2015, just a month after becoming CEO of United Airlines.

On 5 January 2016, he received a heart transplant and returned to work in March 2016. By April 2017, he got his words wrong when some passengers were forcibly removed to make way for aircrew repositioning. “We really learnt some lessons over that one,” said a spokesman. And now he has just over 100 Boeing B737 MAX on order.

It should be an interesting gathering of members and guests as no doubt the Boeing situation will be discussed and also how United Airlines sees the UK market in respect of Brexit.

United flies five times daily to New York Newark, all of the services operated by Polaris-kitted Boeing B767s (see BTN 30 September).

From Europe’s largest hub airport, it also serves Chicago, Washington Dulles, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Denver and has flights all year round from Manchester and Edinburgh to New York Newark. On a seasonal basis, it operates services from Edinburgh to Chicago and Washington Dulles and from Glasgow to New York Newark.

SPECIAL NOTE

The Aviation Club UK has partnered with Airline Economics to host an international event on Monday 4 November 2019 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, 1 Harbour Road, Hong Kong, from 19:30 – 22:30. The dinner, generously supported by Aviation Life, is programmed around the Airline Economics Growth Frontiers Hong Kong Conference and will host leading aviation sector guests. BoC Aviation CEO Robert Martin will attend as the club’s guest of honour and members look forward to hearing an address from him during the evening.
