Further details emerged last week of the routes shake-up at Flybe in the aftermath of its takeover by Connect Airways (BTN 23 September), with services between Birmingham and Berlin Tegel, Milan Malpensa and Lyon suspended for the winter.
Flybe is also suspending flights between Birmingham, Hanover and Hamburg and the London City – Dusseldorf service. Other adjustments have included the airline giving up its Doncaster Sheffield Airport presence and closing its base on the Isle of Man.
The carrier said it had now completed a network review to "strengthen the commercial viability of its 2019-20 winter schedule, further optimise its flying programme and improve profitability in line with its previously announced planned fleet reduction".
It added: "This has resulted in a number of its least profitable routes being cancelled with effect from the end of the 2019 summer season on 26 October … and some seasonal adjustments to its 2019-20 winter schedule between 27 October – 28 March 2020."
Flybe said these meant reduced frequency on routes such as Birmingham to Lyon, Berlin Tegel and Milan Malpensa, which would resume on 14 February, with some additional flying on certain days over the winter period.
The airline apologised for inconvenience to passengers and confirmed all were affected were being contacted and offered the option of being rebooked on an alternative flight or receiving a full refund.
