Toronto greets BA A350

The first North American long-haul service for its new Airbus A350 and a codeshare deal with oneworld partner Malaysia Airlines kept British Airways busy at both ends of its global network last week.

The A350 began service between Heathrow and Toronto (below) following extensive trials and the launch of the aircraft’s first long-haul service to Dubai last month. The aircraft offers BA’s latest-generation Business Class innovation, Club Suite.

VP sales for North America Gerard McEvoy said: “We’re thrilled to be launching our new A350 from Toronto, a city we’ve served for nearly 60 years and to introduce our new Club Suite and the sophistication, comfort and privacy it offers.”

Since BA took delivery earlier this year, the A350 has flown more than 15,400 miles between Heathrow and Madrid to put the aircraft through its paces. Following the Toronto launch, flights to Tel Aviv and Bangalore will begin later this year.

■ The new codeshare agreement with Malaysia Airlines will be added to 14 destinations the airline serves in Malaysia, including Langkawi, Penang and Kota Kinabalu, and nine in Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, New Zealand and Vietnam.
