With France’s Aigle Azure already a casualty (see this issue), fears were growing last night for the future of Slovenia’s Adria Airways after the carrier said on Friday it was cancelling most of its weekend flights and many scheduled for today, Monday.
The airline, which is said to be needing “tens of millions of Euros”, said: “Adria Airways is still leading active discussions with potential new owners and major creditors and remains dedicated in reaching a positive solution for all.”
Slovenia’s Civil Aviation Agency on Wednesday gave Adria, owned by the German investment fund 4K Invest, a week to present a financial plan after the airline “temporarily ceased” flight operations for two days last Tuesday.
The company then extended the suspension of almost all flights until at least Friday as it continued discussions with potential owners and creditors, then extended the action again until today.
Slovenian prime minister Marjan Šarec told reporters the government was looking into ways to help Adria but added possibilities of helping the firm were slim.
Adria’s initial statement said the company was intensively searching solutions in cooperation with a potential investor. “The goal of everyone involved is to make Adria Airways fly again,” it added.
