Level names new CEO

British Airways, Aer Lingus and Iberia parent group IAG has appointed Iberia Express head Fernando Candela CEO of its low-cost airline, Level with effect from today, 9 September.

Candela has been Iberia Express CEO for six years and was at Air Nostrum for 18 years before that. He takes over from former Flybe chief strategy officer Vincent Hodder, who became Level’s CEO a year ago (BTN 30 July 2018).

Iberia and Level chairman Luis Gallego said: “I would like to thank Vincent for the good job he has done in leading Level to this point and welcome Fernando into his new role.

“Fernando has a fantastic track record at developing low-cost brands allied with strong leadership skills. I am confident he will continue to develop the Level operations and brand”.

An IAG statement added: “Level will continue developing its brand and operations with a fresh approach under Fernando Candela’s leadership. He will be working with a fantastic team which has contributed to building Level’s success.

“We would like to thank Vincent for the good job he has done in leading Level to this point and wish him every luck in the future.”

Candela is being replaced at Iberia Express by chief operating officer Carlos Gómez Suárez as interim chief executive.
