Chair takes to the air

Switzerland’s new airline takes to the skies with its new name today, 1 July. It is called Chair and is the successor to Germania Flug, one of the two subsidiaries of Germania, which declared bankruptcy earlier this year (BTN 11 February).

The company said last week the re-branding and change of name to Chair Airlines, which will fly Airbus A319s (below), were key markers of an “intensive transformation process” that Germania Flug has been undergoing since the start of the year.

Chair chief commercial officer Urs Pelizzoni said: “We have used the challenging situation over the past few months to prepare our relaunch, and our new brand is now cutting a fresh figure in the world of Swiss aviation.”

Germania Flug was one of two subsidiaries of Germania. The other, Bulgarian Eagle, also subsequently went bankrupt, while Germania Flug continued to operate under new owners – Swiss-based investment company Albex Aviation, joined later by Polish charter carrier Enter Air.

Pelizzoni said it was “business as usual” under the new name. “We are on course in that the winter timetable went ahead and the 2019 summer timetable will be maintained as planned,” he added. “Planning for the winter of 2019/20 is already under way.”
