Kimpton arrives in UK

A new name on the hotel scene in the capital is set to make its mark later this month with the opening of the Kimpton Fitzroy London. The first UK hotel for the brand, it occupies an iconic heritage building which opened in Russell Square in 1898.

As previewed earlier this year (BTN 23 April), the hotel will be named after the building’s original architect, Charles Fitzroy Doll, whose name is further honoured with Fitz’s Bar.

The opening follows an agreement earlier this year between IHG and Covivio to rebrand and operate 12 hotels and one pipeline property operating under the Principal and De Vere brands.

The Principal London is the first of these to be re-branded as Kimpton Fitzroy London. Next year will see a continuation of the brand’s momentum with additional Kimpton hotel openings in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester.

Kimpton first opened in Europe last year with Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam and the brand has since rapidly increased its global footprint with signings in Tokyo and Paris, both set to open in 2020, and Kimpton Frankfurt, due to open in 2023. Kimpton Da An Hotel in Taipei will also open its doors in the next few months.
