Emirates A380 a decade on

Celebrations are in hand at Emirates Airline as the carrier marks 10 years of operations with the Airbus A380, with latest figures showing the super-jumbo has carried more than 105m passengers over more than 1.5bn km in a decade.

The Emirates A380 made is first flight to New York from Dubai on 1 August 2008 with the UK contributing the highest number of passengers – 20m – in the years since.

The airline, the world’s largest operator of the double-deck aircraft, flies from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham for a total of 14 daily services between the UK and Dubai.

In all, the Emirates A380 operates to 49 cities on six continents on scheduled services with more than 80 daily departures from the Dubai hub. It also flies the world’s shortest A380 route, Dubai – Kuwait, and the longest non-stop, Dubai – Auckland.

Emirates president Sir Tim Clark said: “The Emirates A380 has become one of the most recognisable and admired aircraft in the world.

“Our iconic products like the OnBoard Lounge, shower spa and First Class suites have redefined air travel and we remain committed to service that will continue to ‘wow’ passengers every time they fly with us.”
