UK debut for IHG brands

UK debut locations for the boutique brand Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants and the newly-launched upmarket portfolio voco Hotels were announced last week by the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

The move follows the group’s agreement with Covivio (formerly Foncière des Régions), to rebrand and operate 12 high-quality open hotels in the UK and one pipeline hotel (BTN 25 June).

The Kimpton hotels will occupy city-centre locations in London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The voco Hotels brand will be making its UK debut in Cardiff as the renamed Principal St David’s Hotel overlooking Cardiff Bay.

IHG said further voco properties were expected to open in the UK soon, with each one retaining its individuality but with the reassurance of a global brand.

IHG CEO for Europe, Middle East and Africa Kenneth Macpherson said: “By launching these brands in prime city-centre and destination locations around the country, we will give our guests even greater choice.

“The expansion of our global footprint in high-growth luxury and upscale segments is gaining momentum, with IHG now the leading luxury operator in the UK.”

The signing of the first Kimpton in Japan, in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district, took place last week, following the announcement of three properties in prime markets in southeast Asia and Greater China last year.
