A door-to-door luggage check-in service to reduce airport waiting times for passengers has been launched at Heathrow by Finnair in a three-month trial in partnership with luggage specialist AirPortr.
The bespoke paid-for concierge service is designed enable Finnair passengers to arrange collection of their luggage from the doorsteps of their homes or hotels to be checked in directly on their behalf.
Passengers who check-in online can have their luggage collected at their London location up to a few hours before departure, so they can head straight through airport security and collect the bags at their destinations.
Regional general manager Andrew Fish said: “This trial with AirPortr will offer passengers a smoother and easier journey, saving them having to take their luggage personally to the airport and spend time queuing at both check-in and security.”
In another development, Finnair has just launched inflight internet on its European network, with passengers being offered the high-speed satellite service free for a two-month trial period until the end of September.
The Oneworld carrier has already outfitted six aircraft with the Viasat system, to be followed by 14 more by the end of summer and the entire single-aisle Airbus fleet outfitted by mid-2019.
