Another Chinese carrier is on the verge of launching long-haul international service with the arrival in September of its first Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner, followed by two more by the end of the year.
Shanghai-based Juneyao Airlines will become the first Chinese private airline to receive a wide-body long-haul aircraft. It has five Dreamliners on order with options for five more.
Although the aircraft will be used first on domestic services, Juneyao is widely expected to apply for long-haul international routes soon as part of what it calls its “upcoming plans for development”.
The company is departing from tradition by having three liveries, with the first B787 bearing a design featuring China’s national flower, the peony. Introduced to mark the airline’s recent 10th anniversary, it is also used on Juneyao’s Airbus A320 fleet.
The carrier will also extend its “Chinese Red” livery, the colour representative of its home country and used on the Airbus series, to some Dreamliners and there will be a Chinese Ribbon design “to showcase China’s promise for the future around the world”.
Dreamliner configuration will feature a yet-unspecified number of 180deg lie-flat Thompson Vantage XL seats with 42in pitch in 1+2+1 layout in Business Class and fully-adjustable Recaro CL3710s in Economy.
