EasyJet easily stole the show on the Wednesday of Farnborough week with the mid-morning arrival from Gatwick of its first Airbus A321neo with transport secretary Chris Grayling and new CEO Johan Lundgren on board. The A321 offers 235 seats against 189 on its A320 sibling.

This is in spite of air traffic problems over France and a requirement to bring the former Air Berlin operation at Berlin Tegel Airport up to standard in terms of efficiency.
Lundgren was bullish. “The A321 also provide easyJet with the lowest operating costs in the single-aisle aircraft category with unit cost savings which are estimated to be up to 9% better than an A320neo and around 21% better than an A319,” he said.
The A321neos are powered by CFM’s LEAP-1A engine with up to 15% savings in fuel burn and CO2 emissions, and a reduced noise footprint of 50% in the take-off and landing phase, compared with previous generations of the aircraft.
