Plans for a southern rail access to Heathrow from Kent and Sussex via London’s Waterloo Station and Clapham Junction moved forward last week after transport secretary Chris Grayling invited companies to submit proposals for private sector investment in the project.
A forerunner in the scheme is Heathrow Southern Railway Ltd (HSRL), which says it intends to create “fast, easy and relaxing” rail access to Heathrow by building eight miles of rail infrastructure from the west end of the existing Terminal 5 station.
Electric trains would operate between the airport and Waterloo via Clapham, Putney, Hounslow, Twickenham, Richmond, Staines and other intermediate stations, with Waterloo East and Clapham Junction providing Heathrow access from the south with just one change of train.
HSRL chair Baroness Jo Valentine said: “We stand ready to fulfil this once-in-a-generation opportunity to open up Heathrow to train services from London and the south of England while also transforming connectivity across the whole region.
“We want to put many more communities within easy reach of the UK’s only hub airport by train, enabling them to reap economic benefits while at the same time reducing road congestion and improving air quality.”

Maybe it would make more sense to connect LGW with LHR by rail - current connections can vary from 1 hour to 3 hours by road and no adequate rail connection.
