Wijet goes for Honda

European taxi airline Wijet is acquiring 16 HondaJets under a contract valued at US$78m at catalogue price. The carrier says the deal will give it the capacity to cover 1,300 destinations throughout Europe and North Africa.

It also means Wijet, which acquired its British counterpart Blink Ltd in 2016, becomes the worldwide official launch airline for the new compact business jet, manufactured by Honda Aircraft and said to be the fastest and most comfortable in its class.

Wijet Group CEO Patrick Hersent said: "No other plane today can rival the performances of the HondaJet in its category. With it, we can offer clients the best in terms of safety, speed, choice of destinations and comfort at competitive prices.”

Co-founder Alexandre Azoulay added: "After our acquisition of Blink Ltd, this fleet overhaul supported by the HondaJet marks a major new step in Wijet's growth."

The first of the five-seat, 485mph (780kph) aircraft is being delivered this month with the rest staged over the next 18 months. They will enable Wijet to connect Paris, one of its 12 bases, to destinations inaccessible until now with planes in this class, including major cities in North Africa as well as Athens.
