Boeing celebrates with Guinness

Thousands of Boeing employees have been celebrating the company’s latest Guinness World Records title after it rolled out the 10,000th B737 to come off the production line.

The aircraft, a B737-8 MAX for Southwest Airlines unveiled at the manufacturer’s plant at Renton near Seattle, gives the company the record for the most produced commercial jet aircraft model.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Kevin McAllister said: “This incredible milestone is a testament to the work we do every day to build the most reliable and efficient single-aisle airplane in the world.

“It represents more than 50 years of success and achievement on the part of thousands of Boeing employees past and present, our supplier partners, and our airline customers around the globe who put their confidence in the 737.”

The 737 was previously awarded the Guinness World Records title in 2006 for the 5,000th aircraft to come out of the Renton factory, a total that took almost four decades to reach.

Boeing said growing market demand and higher production rates had meant the 737 programme reached the 10,000th aircraft milestone only 12 years later.

Production will increase from the current 47 to 52 aircraft a month later this year. The programme has more than 4,600 aircraft still on order, boosted by sales of the newest version, the 737 MAX.
