Wizz Air boost at Luton

Two new routes launched yesterday, Sunday, and the arrival of two new Airbus aircraft have consolidated Hungarian airline Wizz Air’s presence at Luton, with the airline promising more developments to come.

Yesterday saw the first flights depart Luton for two new destinations in Wizz Air’s growing UK network. Flights to Bratislava  (Slovakia) will operate daily, and service to Bari (Italy) on Wednesdays and Sundays until 18 April, then four times a week.

Wizz, which claims to be already the sixth largest airline operating in the UK, says the new A320 and A321 aircraft joining the Luton fleet reflect the company’s continued investment into its UK operations.

The airline now has three aircraft based at Luton, with a further five to be deployed by June, increasing the number of direct local jobs to over 300. The Luton network now covers 47 destinations in 23 countries.

The UK moves are part of the biggest operational ramp-up in Wizz Air’s history, with 21 aircraft being allocated throughout its European bases in 17 weeks, supporting 700 additional weekly departures.

Chief corporate officer Owain Jones said: “This is an exciting time for Wizz Air and its customers as we continue to expand our network across Europe with one of Europe’s youngest aircraft fleets.”
