Stansted to Washington

Following the announcement of flights from Stansted to Boston, New York and Toronto later this year (see BTN  30 October 2017) Primera Air is to introduce a five times weekly Stansted to Washington route from 22 August.

The low-cost airline starts flights from Stansted to New York and Boston in April and Toronto in May.  It has cancelled a new service from Birmingham to Boston.

Andri Már Ingólfsson, president and owner of Primera Air, said:  “We’ve been planning to add Washington from the beginning of the transatlantic flight project. We see a strong demand for this route and we are the first low-cost airline to start operations between both cities, offering people an affordable way of transatlantic travel.”

Ken O’Toole, CEO of Stansted Airport, said: “We have made clear our ambition is to provide more services to the USA, and add routes to China and India, so this is another step towards that goal. We look forward to the launch of these exciting new services in the coming months.”

The new Primera Air base will also feature flights to Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca, all Spanish, plus Chania in Crete.  The airline has 20 new Boeing MAX9-ER aircraft on order.
