Ethiopian heads for Buenos Aires

Maintaining its record of innovation, Africa’s largest airline group, Ethiopian, is to launch a five-times-weekly service to Buenos Aires from 8 March next year using the Boeing B787 Dreamliner. It will be the airline’s sixth gateway to the Americas.

The date marks International Women’s Day, with Ethiopian group CEO Tewolde GebreMariam announcing the carrier would celebrate the occasion by having the inaugural flight operated by an all-female crew.

“We are pleased to be adding Buenos Aires to our extensive global network to provide efficient connections to Asia, the Middle East and Africa and major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo, Mumbai, Delhi and Dubai,” he added.

“Ethiopia is registering rapid economic growth with strong emphasis on industrialisation and as the national carrier we are expanding our global footprint as quickly as possible to support this growth by facilitating its access to investors as well as other visitors.”

Ethiopian last month introduced Africa’s first Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner into its fleet. It is the second version of the Dreamliner family to join after the airline in 2012 became the first outside Japan to receive and operate the B787-8 (BTN 30 October).
