BA’s ‘Wing’ lifts off

An enhanced private security zone and comfort facilities are awaiting British Airways’ First and Gold Executive Club passengers at Heathrow from 5 April after the airline last week confirmed the opening date for the ‘First Wing’ premium area in Terminal 5.

The facility, plans for which were announced last September (BTN 26 September 2016), is next to the First check-in area. From there, passengers will be guided to two new dedicated security lanes.

Once through security, passengers will have dedicated access to BA’s Galleries First lounge and through to the airline’s flagship Concorde Room, where they can relax before their flights.

As BA pointed out last week, the new dedicated security lanes will also reduce the numbers using the current North and South security, speeding up the journey for all T5 passengers, especially those in Club World.

Design of the First Wing, part of an investment agreed with Heathrow to improve Fast Track entry in T5, is a collaboration between London’s award-winning Universal Design Studio and BA.

Universal’s Hannah Carter Owers said: “We took our cues from the BA First cabin, bringing texture, warmth and luxury to Terminal 5 to give a bespoke, crafted feel.”
