TAP expansion trail

More flights between the UK and Portugal and six new destinations from Lisbon are in the pipeline for next summer from the Portuguese flag-carrier TAP.

From June, the airline will fly to Lisbon twice daily from Manchester, while it is also boosting its Gatwick – Lisbon service to 11 times weekly, further improving connectivity to its long-haul network of 10 destinations in Brazil, 14 in Africa and five in North America.

The six new destinations from the Lisbon hub are Toronto, Budapest, Bucharest, Las Palmas, Alicante and Stuttgart. The developments crown a busy period for the airline, which last year launched services to Boston and New York JFK.

TAP has also introduced a fare structure offering one-way fares on long-haul routes (BTN 31 October 2016) and plans to acquire A330 and A320 aircraft over the next year to support the higher frequencies on the medium- to long-haul routes.

Other developments have included launching a programme for retrofitting 48 aircraft with new cabin interiors, introduction of the new brand TAP Express for regional operations, the new Lisbon – Oporto shuttle service and the launch of TAP Stopover in Portugal.
