TAP's one-way fare strategy

One-way fares were announced last week by TAP Portugal for all its intercontinental destinations, making the airline one of the first in Europe to offer passengers what it hailed as “a simple, more flexible and transparent fare structure”.

Introduction of the new fares, which are valid to travel on or after 15 November,  follows the launch of a similar scheme for short- and medium-haul travel to European and North African destinations.

TAP CEO Fernando Pinto said the object was to give passengers a more tailored and convenient approach to booking travel requirements, according to individual needs, with no restrictions on minimum and maximum stays. The fares are simply doubled-up to give return prices, which the airline said simplifies the product for the consumer.

Launched in 1945, TAP celebrated completed a privatisation in 2015, with the Atlantic Gateway Group now the principal shareholder. The airline’s Lisbon hub is a key European gateway for Africa and North, Central and South America.

TAP is the leading international carrier to Brazil with 67 weekly flights, while the company’s network covers 79 destinations in 29 countries. The airline currently operates about 2,500 weekly flights.
