12 cities on Southend list

Southend Airport (SEN) owner the Stobart Group has moved quickly to confirm future plans, with flights to 12 new destinations in May and the appointment of former easyJet chief operating officer Warwick Brady as deputy group CEO.
(see BTN 12 December 2016 and 31 October 2016).

The flights will be operated by the group’s aviation division, Stobart Air, a franchisee of Flybe, using two Embraer E195 aircraft with 118 seats each. Services to Cologne, Lyon and Milan take off on 1 May.

A new route to Budapest starts on 4 May, flights to Venice on 7 May, Prague on 8 May then Vienna and Reus on 10 May. Dubrovnik begins on 16 May and services to the French city of Figari on 19 May.

Perpignan is scheduled to join the roster on 25 May and Zadar on 27 May. All the services will be operated through Stobart Air’s existing franchise with Flybe and take the total number of routes available from Southend to 28.

Brady, who joined Stobart in December, said: “LSA [London Southend Airport] is perfectly placed to serve London’s growing travel market especially in face of capacity constraints at other airports. This is also part of our strategy to build new passenger routes and further the development of our regional franchise with Flybe.”
