New horizons for Flybe

With a new chief joining next week, Flybe is looking forward to a busy new year as it also launches flights between Heathrow and Scotland for the first time with more than 40 services a week linking Aberdeen and Edinburgh with London.

The airline will use slots at Heathrow that were freed after BA parent company the International Airlines Group acquired BMI in April 2012 and will offer up to 18 flights a day between London and Edinburgh and 10 between London and Aberdeen from 26 March.

Executive chairman Simon Laffin said:  “The new Heathrow routes complement our existing ones to London City, and will benefit our business customers and customers in Scotland who want to connect with our long haul codeshare partners.”

The new routes will be an early priority for Flybe’s recently appointed CEO, Christine Ourmières-Widener, who starts work on 16 January and replaces Saad Hammad, stepping down in October after three years in the job (See BTN 7 November).

A previous CEO at Cityjet, VP New York for Air France KLM and London chief for AF she joins Flybe from American Express GBT where she was chief global sales officer.
